9800xt? Do you mean the x800xt? The 9800xt doesn't even compare.
I hope you mean x800xt.
I looked into that also, but the price was too much for what I wanted. If I wanted to spend $311 then I'd rather upgrade my Mobo and processor and just get a PCIe card. Instead I settled with my final AGP card.
Now I just have to find some work to do and make enough money to get a new power supply and some more ram. Once I get that though, I'll feel happy with my computer.

My X700 gets the job done...
I'm sticking with ATI because I have tons of discount coupons, and my cousin works in the company.

The 9800XT is a 256mb DDR card, AGP. Most screw it up with the Pro version, a 128 PCI. Trust me when I tell you the 9800XT is one hell of a rig - it can easily be clocked past a x800 without any jaggies. ONLY problem with this card that the x800 solves - the card DOES require a lot of cooling and it takes smarts to make it purr. The x800 is no more than a 9800xt souped up by default.
EDIT - Night night, going to bed.

Well I was looking at the stats for it and the OC possibilities and they really didn't come anywhere near the numbers I'll be able to get with my x800. Not to mention there is about a year of time between the two cards...
Here are some facts I guess to prove myself somewhat right:
The 9800xt and x800pro use completely different chips, so the x800 isn't just a souped up version of the 9800xt.
The stock 9800xt has clock speeds of 412/730 while the stock x800pro has clock speeds of 475/900. 8 Pipelines to 12... GDDR3 ram is supported on the x800pro...
Maybe an OCed 9800xt can get higher clock speeds than a stock x800pro, but the x800pro can get overclocked higher, and don't forget those extra 4 pipelines on the x800pro. Those definitely sway the victory in its favor...
And for $250 I got quite a bargain!

For the record my 9800 Pro runs on an AGP slot.

OMG!! My neighbors are so freaking cheap!! They are in the process of moving out of their house and for the past two weeks they have been coming back to their house and moving furnature out with thise midgety moving van that they get for free from the person who sold their house. So now every day at 7:00 am they roll up that retarded truck and move like a couch (which is all that anyone could possibly fit in this retarded truck). I swear they could rent the smallest truck from U-Haul and be done in one day but their cheapness dictates that they spend two weeks to move all their stuff out so they can do it for free. I swear if I hear that stupid beeping from it backing up outside my window one more time I might shoot someone.

Aye, which was the last edition of the Pro - the originals ran out of the PCI for some odd reason. Dan - check the later editions of the 9800xt, from manufactors such as Vertigo. It's ATI's card, but other's soup it.

It still doesn't change the chip in the card.
Or the pipelines. Actually, I may be wrong about the pipelines, but I'm too lazy to check.
I do know that you'd have to risk a lot and put out a ton of work to get a 9800xt to match the power of a stock x800pro. And whoever buys an x800pro to run it at stock is pretty lame. That card is designed to be pushed to the limit.

I believe that is true. The X800 is designed to be Flashed to a X850. I own the X800XL. It is NOT designed to be overclocked...or very little. It has a clock speed of 493mhz and the most you could saftly overclock it to is 500mhz. So what is the point there? It is one the reason I bought it...I do not overclock anything. No need to cook or make my system unstable. The X800XL is still a super upgrade for me over my 9800pro on my older system.
The 9800pro is still a good solid card though. Look how long it was King of ALL cards. Longer then anything "I" can remember.

damn this sucks. ive got my own sort of 'play room' and i bought everything that is in that room, the computer, the couch, the relaxing chair and of course the lcd tv with dvd player and stuff.
i call home to check in on things.
i get my sister
"CAN I WATCH A DVD IN YOUR ROOMMMM !?!?!?!?!?! *drool and look stupid*"
(she has her own little stupid tv with her own little stupid dvd player in her own room)
i say: "no you can not, coz youre as stupid as a dead fish when it comes to electronics. not to mention the loads of cash i put into that room, you in there will lower the worth of it all."
"IM GONNA WATCH ANYWAY!!!! *looks like an idiot whose been sniffing stamps*"
and she hangs up.
now, this sister of mine. she is 3 years older then me.. but sometimes, that is, most of the time it looks like she is a fckin 2 year old.
and now she is watching my new over expensive lcd and probably breaking it...

Hmm... I'd hate to say it, but there is a few choices you can do:- Lock up your room with secure 'bits'
- Get a new house and take your deliveries (hopefully NOT your sister as well )
- Move to another country (most expensive but if you have friends you can get away with finding a house over there)
Hope this helps!
